Time for me to remember the first bus I rode on.  I was 5 years old in Pearl City, Hawaii.  On a school field trip in 1989 we rode on a Blue Bird All-American RE.  Bus number 822.  I THINK it may have been a 1982.  It was a yellow roof with an AM/FM radio inside.  It also had reflective tape on the exterior.
